My cousin near Barrie had the setup working for a month before I did, and the only difference between us was that he stopped reading reviews and just tried one.
He is in Ontario, north of the city, the kind of place where the cable options are thin and the satellite dish argues with the weather. For him this was not a way to save money on television he already had. It was the first way to get the channels at all without a dish.
What I noticed watching him use it: the local feeds matter more the further out you are. In the city you have antennas and options. An hour north you do not, and a service that carries the Ontario regional channels properly is doing something the alternatives near him simply cannot.
So the test he used was narrow and correct. Does it carry the specific regional feeds I actually watch, at the quality I expect, at seven on a weeknight. Everything else was noise.
He also made the point that being outside the city, a month-first trial mattered more, because if it did not work there was no cable to fall back on. It did work, which is why I eventually copied him.
